Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama resumed on Friday, laying out his strategy to reform Nigeria’s foreign missions and block economic leakages.

The plan includes curbing corruption, and ensuring robust economic recovery for Nigeria, in line with the goals of the current administration.

Onyeama, who said the foreign policy of the country would be citizens-centred also assured that the country, under his watch, will retain its relations with African nations despite the brushes that occurred in the past

Media reports on the recent the assignment of ministerial portfolios suggest that President Buhari proclaimed it was about having round pegs in right hole. Nothing attests to this better than the appointment of the Foreign Minster Geoffrey Oyeama. His credentials are impeccable. Significantly he is multi-lingual and will engage intimately and sensitively with Nigeria’s immediate francophone neighbours. Well done Mr President. Its time to start thinking of language skills in key positions involving collaboration with our neighbours. Nigeria seems to have made a start at getting it right in eyes of its people and neighbours.

Auspicious time to set the wheel of econ diplomacy rolling. Also time to audit membership of so many meaningless intl organizations that drainpipe the economy, prune down number of embassies and high commissions… try the phillipine employment model by finding overseas jobs for thousands of passing out youth corpers who pay a small proportion of their salaries for these govt/ embassy services. It will create thousands of good jobs not available in nigeria
