The people of Agwagune community in Biase Council of Cross River State have described the judgement of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) on their son, Justice Walter Onnoghen, as a clear case of injustice and deliberate marginalisation.

CCT had on Thursday, April 18, 2019 convicted the embattled former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and banned him from holding public office in the next 10 years.

The community said: “This is complete injustice and a sham and we cannot accept it. We like other minority groups are being marginalized in this country yet we say this is one Nigeria’.

Speaking on behalf of people, one of the Leaders of thought in Agwagune, Mr. Charles Eko, “This action by the Code of Conduct Tribunal is purely political motivated by the presidency. It is a case of injustice just because we do not have people. This is not an offence that would warrant the magnitude it has taken after all the tribunal by its establishment gives room for correction.

“It is a case of a deliberate effort to totally eliminate the minority from the system so that the north will continue to dominate. You can see that all the judges that are embattled are from the south.

“They are never happy seeing our people at the top. Certainly it is not one Nigeria we are operating. Everybody is an ethnic champion wanting his own area to dominate. As you can see now everything is going one direction,  just check out the key positions, they are all for north” .

Eko noted that, “We have protested on this matter asking the Federal Government to leave our son alone because it is a clear case of persecution. There are inter communal clashes in Erei, in Biase and Ukelle in Yala councils of Cross River and the people of Ebonyi state yet nothing is being done and the people are being killed.

“We are not happy with what is going on. We are even surprised the south south governor’s initially made a case on the matter but have since fizzled out”.

He charged the people of the state to “speak against this injustice in the name of fighting corruption when the real corrupt people are neck deep in corruption in the government of the day. This is a shame and must be resisted in the interest of fairness and Justice “.
