Ondo council boss slumps, dies

The Chairman of Ilaje Local Government of Ondo State, Mr. Agunola Omomowo, yesterday slumped and died in Akure, the state capital. He was aged 61.

It was gathered that Omomowo died after attending a political meeting that lasted for hours.

The Guardian learnt that he walked to his car by himself and slumped and was dead before he could be rushed to the State Specialist Hospital, Akure.

His Special Adviser, Mr. Bode Omoyoloye, confirmed his death, saying his boss was not suffering any illness before his sudden death.

“He was not showing any sign of sickness before his death, because he left Igbokoda to Akure for a political meeting with his vice and the secretary.

“After the meeting, he slept in an undisclosed hotel, but slumped before he got to his car and died before getting to the hospital.

“He was a fine gentleman, easy-going and generous to all, as he was been enjoyed by all Ilaje indigenes since he was sworn in,” Omoyoloye said.

Omomowo was elected into office during the April 23, last year’s council poll. He was born in July 1956 at Obe Rewoye community in Ilaje Council and married to Mrs. Abiola Omomowo and was blessed with six children.

Meanwhile, seven persons were arraigned before an Akure Magistrate Court presided over by Mrs. Victoria Bob-Manuel and remanded in Olokuta Prison for allegedly attacking the convoy of Governor Olusegun Mimiko on Thursday during a protest at the premises of the state House of Assembly on Igbatoro Road, Akure.

The accused persons- Tunde Alabi (28); Abiola Eniola (27); Yusuf Muhammed (25); Olanrewaju Olomolotan (40); Adeniyi Michael (30); Samson Omodara (20); and Ijalade Oluwaseun (27)- however, pleaded not guilty to all the four charges of felony, public disturbance, unlawful assembly and public damage preferred against them.

They were docked for conspiracy with others still at large to prevent the governor from presenting this year’s budget before the House of Assembly.

The governor, who was billed to present the budget, could not do so due to the crisis in the House and some suspected hoodlums allegedly used the opportunity of the crisis to cause violence in the Assembly.
