The Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Enugu State, Hon. Sylvester Onah, has congratulated the Governor-Elect of the state, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, on his victory at the April 2015 gubernatorial poll.

Speaking at a press briefing in Enugu yesterday, he said the conduct of the election was comprehensively evaluated and appraised, saying the state was convinced that INEC performed excellently in the conduct of the election.

Expressing satisfaction, Onah congratulated INEC for conducting free, fair, transparent, and peaceful elections in Enugu State.

He commended the security and allied agencies including the Nigeria Police, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Nigerian Customs Service, State Security Service and EFCC, for the various roles they played in the conduct of the election.

He said: “Beyond the shadow of doubt, the governorship election was the best and freest election ever conducted in Enugu State since the return of democratic governance in 1999.

“The election was very peaceful and meets the threshold of international best practices of democracy. I observed that INEC officials and ad-hoc staff deployed on election duty across the 17 LGAs, 260 wards and 2,958 polling units were professionally at their best.

“The notes that the peaceful political environment before, during and after the election was possible due to the peace and security architecture put in place by his Excellency the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime,” Onah said.

While congratulating the Governor-Elect for a well-deserved victory, he noted that the result could not have been otherwise, given the excellent performance of Governor Chime in the years that he has been in the saddle.
