Okowa charges electorate to protect votes

Atiku campaign council chides Ekiti govt over stadium
Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has urged the electorate to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defend their votes in the coming elections.

Okowa, who was in Ughelli North, Isoko South and Isoko North councils yesterday, in continuation of his campaign for a second tenure, advised them not to be scared of intimidation from either security agencies or thugs.

Speaking at Ughelli township stadium, the governor thanked the electorate for the massive turnout.

“Though Ughelli remains the heart of politics in the state, with a whopping 199,000 registered voters, my plea to you is that when you get home, kindly reach out from house to house and encourage all to come out en masse, cast their votes and defend the votes,” he said.

Okowa also encouraged them to fight the good fight, keep the faith and wait for the crown in form of appointments and infrastructure developments. “I am encouraged by the large turnout. I appreciate all the leaders here and plead with the youths to continue working with their elders for result.”

The governor also noted that PDP, which won 21 councils during the 2015 general elections, would sweep the votes “because we have delivered on promises.”

Meanwhile, the PDP presidential campaign council in Ekiti State has decried the refusal of the state government to allow it use the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado-Ekiti, for its campaign scheduled for Monday, January 14.

The council also condemned the attack yesterday on traders at Old Garage, Ijoka and Oja Oba areas of Ado-Ekiti by the thugs allegedly sponsored by government.

Director-general of the council, Dipo Anisulowo, said in a statement yesterday that it was sad that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government in the state had taken its political intolerance to the level of preventing opposition parties from using facilities belonging to the public.
