Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has assured the people of Burutu Council of his administration’s determination to complete the Ayakoromo Bridge linking Burutu, Bomadi and Ughelli South Councils.

Okowa, who gave the assurance yesterday in Burutu during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) local government elections campaign flag off, said enough funds have been provided in next year’s budget to ensure that the bridge was completed according to schedule and specifications.

He said: “We have heard so much about the Ayakoromo Bridge and because of the importance of the bridge to the people of the area, we have provided the sum of N1bn for the bridge in the 2018 budget and I can assure you that the contractor will resume work immediately.”

The governor stated at the rally that the government was also working on other road projects in the riverine areas, including the 18.7km roads in Ogulaha, Obotobe I & II, Sokebolo and Yokri, as well as Burutu internal roads to ease movements within the oil producing communities.

While expressing concern over the lack of electricity in Burutu town, Okowa noted: “We feel the pains of our brothers and sisters who suffer lack of electricity here.“Because we are a listening government, I have directed the Commissioner for Power and Energy, Newworld Safugha, to work out cost estimates and advise government on the most cost-effective way to connect the community to the national grid.”

He urged the party’s candidates to work hard in their campaigns to ensure victory, urging them to reside with the people after their emergence, so that they can provide effective representation for them.

Okowa specifically commended the people for turning out in their large numbers for the campaign rally despite the riverine terrain, saying the crowd of party faithful was a clear evidence that the PDP was strong in the area.

Chairman of the party in the state, Kingsley Esiso, thanked leaders of the party in the area and called for a more united party ahead of the January 6 elections. Leaders of the party in the area who also spoke include Deputy Governor Kingsley Otuaro; Julius Pondi; Wing Commander Peter Biakpara; Tam Brisibe; Daniel Yingi; Kennedy Daubry; Asupa Forteta; Frank Enekorogha; Funkekeme Solomon; J.T. Government; among others, said the crowd of supporters at the venue was an indication that the people of Burutu would vote massive for the party’s candidates in the election.Earlier, Chairman of the party in the Council, Ebike Oromoni, thanked Okowa for the projects going on in all the wards in council, particularly the Ayakoromo Bridge.
