Wife of Imo State governor, Mrs. Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha, in continuation of her housing initiative, She Needs A Roof Project (SNARP), has built and donated 22 two-bedroom bungalows to indigent widows across the 27 local councils in the state.

Already, over 172 units of bungalows have been built across the state and handed over to indigent widows in the first, second and third phases of the project in the past years.

Among those who benefitted at the weekend were Mrs. Florence Akubaa, Mrs. Mabel Ahamefula, Mrs. Susan Nwandu and Mrs. Uzochi Nnadi.

Handing over the keys of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Okorocha said the beneficiaries were carefully considered according to their state of lack and living condition. She regretted that many of the recipients were living in thatched homes, whose roofs were leaking homes.

While enjoining the rich in society to assist the poor around them, she promised to make more women benefit and get out of poverty. “We shall ensure that our indigent mothers, widows and the poorest of the poor do not suffer anymore,” she declared.

Reacting, the beneficiaries expressed joy at the gesture of the governor’s wife for coming to their aid and wiping away their tears.

In a related development, a philanthropist and On Air Personality (OAP), Oyinyechi Divine James, popularly known as Tushbee, recently hosted widows at an event tagged ‘Tushbee and the Widows’.

Noting that widows all over the world endure extreme poverty, violence, homelessness and ill health, Tushbee said she decided to put smiles on their faces by providing them with free medical check-ups and food items, ranging from rice, oil, garri, and tomatoes among others.

She said this act was her way of giving back to the society for what God had done for her, adding that, “naturally I am a humanitarian, my grandmother who died two years ago inspired me. ”

Responding, Mrs. Mercy Ugwoeje, a beneficiary, said: “This young lady is God-sent, she has a big heart. I pray that God Almighty will always remember her for what she has done for us today.”
