Okorocha scores Imo high on infrastructure

Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, marked his five-year anniversary and 40 years of the state’s creation at the weekend, scoring his government high in the provision of infrastructure, which he said would remain relevant in the next 25 years.

Okorocha, who made the assessment at the Government House, Owerri, disclosed that his administration has executed over 1,000 projects in the state during the period under review.

He said his government has done well in massive the areas of renovation, rehabilitation and completion of projects abandoned by his predecessor, regretting however, that that dwindling revenue has slowed the pace of development.

Okorocha mentioned some of the projects executed as, construction of Ochiedike dialysis centre, free education from primary to tertiary education and reduction of poverty rate.

Others include the construction of Imo International Conference Centre (IICC), completion of former Ahiajoku convention centre, now Imo Trade and Investment Centre and construction of Government House Chapel, among others.

The governor said these projects have brought great impacts into peoples’ lives, saying the free education policy, for instance, have increased the enrolment figures of pupils and students to 800,000.

According to the governor, the artisan centre and relocation structures for homecoming traders from Alaba International Electronics market, Lagos, were almost completed.

He added that his administration has also under the period completed the Heroes Square, the Ikemba Ojukwu Centre, as well as renovated the Imo Concorde Hotels and Imo Liaison office, Abuja.

“This is the only government that had finished all the abandoned projects. What else can I do for Ndi Imo?” he asked.
