Ohanaeze to mark Igbo day at secretariat
The apex South-East socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has decided to host this year’s Igbo day at its national secretariat of the organisation in Enugu.
The Guardian gathered yesterday that the decision to move the event to the secretariat became a last minute option following alleged unwillingness of any state, including Enugu, whose turn it is, to host the event.
To further buttress the unwillingness, a former Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, who was to chair the event, has reportedly declined.
Secretary-General of the group, Dr. Joe Nworgu, who confirmed the movement, said the event with the theme, Ojemba cheta kwa ulo, meaning think home, invest home, would also mark the final outing of the incumbent executive led by Chief Enwo Igariwey.
He added: “We will use the occasion to reiterate the message we have been sending to Ndigbo to think and invest in home first. We are maximally an optimistic people and that is what we will also showcase at the event.
“This is our final outing and we will like to showcase the Ohanaeze secretariat building being put up by Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha so that as the people come into the secretariat, they see what is happening. Again with the economy in recession, we are living with the times.”
