Ogun Quarantines 28 persons, sets up biosecurity, containment centre, says governor

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, yesterday, disclosed that so far, 28 people have been identified and quarantined as those who had contact with the victim of the Coronavirus in the state on his arrival on Tuesday.

The governor, who spoke to journalists at a press briefing at his Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta office, said the isolation facility located in the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, would be upgraded to a full fledged biosecurity and containment centre to attend to anyone who contacts the virus.

The 44-year-old Italian victim (name withheld) is said to be a consultant to Lafarge Cement company in the state.

Abiodun disclosed that the cement factory had been totally “locked down,” while the two health centres located in the factory had been converted to isolation centres to hold the contact persons, adding that a team of epidemiologists in the state were still tracing other people who might have had contact with the Italian or the 28 contacts.

Besides, the governor said the state had also set up disease control and communication centres in all the 20 councils as a measure to tackle the situation.

The biosecurity centre, he said, would be set up with the help of the federal government and other international health organisations and would increase the number of biosecurity centres in the country to four.

He urged the public not to panic or entertain any fear, as the state was doing very possible to check the spread of the disease.
