Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun

Ogun State Government yesterday ordered the closure of shops and market stalls in Ifo, Obada-Oko and Owode Ijoko areas of the State for operating in a dirty environment.

The State Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs.) Yetunde Onanuga gave the order while monitoring the level of compliance of environmental sanitation by shop owners and market women in Ewekoro, Ifo and Ado-Odo/Ota Local Council Areas of the State.

Onanuga disclosed that the State was determined to enforce strict compliance with the environmental sanitation law at homes and market places and urged the people to ensure cleanliness of their environment at all times.

The Deputy Governor maintained that the environmental sanitation law by the State Government was made in good faith to ensure cleanliness and healthy living by the people, insisting that, “a healthy person is a wealthy person”.

She therefore enjoined shop owners and market women to participate regularly in the sanitation exercise and desist from acts and practices of indiscriminate disposal of waste in drainages and road medians.

According to her, the closure of shops and market stalls would serve as deterrent to others. She reiterated State’s commitment to environmental sanitation exercise, saying that the State has zero tolerance for non-compliance.

She noted that State Government would continue its enlightenment campaign as well as enforcement of the environmental exercise until voluntary compliance permeates the nooks and crannies of the State.
