The National Youth Council of Ogoni People (NYCOP) has declared its position on the current deceitful campaign about the endorsement of an indigenous oil company, Xavon Energy, for oil resumption in Ogoniland.

The National Youth Council of Ogoni People (NYCOP) has declared its position on the current deceitful campaign about the endorsement of an indigenous oil company, Xavon Energy, for oil resumption in Ogoniland.

The group said that the sponsored campaigns were not representing the interest of Ogoni youths as no oil firm, including Xavon Energy, had been endorsed by the Ogoni people for oil production.

Its President, Theophilus Mbagha, in a statement, said that any attempt to mislead the public on their position on oil exploration would cause crises and that should be averted by rejecting the sponsored campaigns for Xavon Energy.

“Ogoni youths will stand by the decision of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) and therefore maintain that issues of oil production should be negotiated through only the group that has mandate and massive support,” he said.

Ogoni youths, according to the statement, have not endorsed Xavon Energy, and urged the Federal Government and the public to disregard the sponsored campaigns masterminded by self-interest groups to cause crises through divide and rule tactics currently deployed against the people.
