Obi, Fayose celebrate Jonathan at 60
Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi and Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, have sent goodwill messages to former President Goodluck Jonathan, describing him as a pillar of democracy in Nigeria and Africa.
Fayose, specifically described him as the pillar that has held the country’s democracy from falling, saying his political tolerance is second to none in the nation’s history.
He said this in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, while celebrating the former president’s 60th birthday. He said Jonathan’s contributions to the growth and sustenance of democracy in the country could not be forgotten.
“I celebrate Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as he hit the diamond. You are indeed a rare gem as far as politics, leadership and nationalism are concerned. You lived your words that politics is not a do-or-die affair when you relinquished power despite the many flaws in the election that brought your opponent to power.
“Your political tolerance made you to overlook many evils that were said and done to your person and administration. Nigerians are now living witnesses to how lesser statements have become hate speeches, because you are a man of destiny, any effort to pull you down will fail.
“Happy birthday, and many happy returns of the day. On behalf of my family and the good people of Ekiti State, I wish you many years of fruitful contributions to the growth and development of our dear nation,” he said.
Meanwhile, Obi said the former President would forever be remembered for the part he played in deepening democracy in Africa, when he, against the trend, handed over power to his successor. He added that Jonathan would remain a reference point in Africa and ought to be celebrated for that singular demonstration of abiding faith in democracy.
