OAU senate picks acting VC today
After weeks of leadership crisis, the Senate of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, is expected to meet today and pick an Acting Vice Chancellor for the institution, as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Buhari had on Monday issued a directive to the Senate to recommend a suitable person to be appointed as Acting Vice Chancellor, pending the selection of a substantive Vice Chancellor (VC).
Members of Non Academic Staff Union (NASU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and some academic staff of the university, alleging lack of due process, had kicked against the appointment of Professor Ayobami Salami as successor to the former VC, Professor Bamitale Omole.
The unions had since engaged in protracted protest against the emergence of Salami and shut the administrative block, preventing running of the university’s activities.
