Nursing union seeks enhanced law enforcement, prosecution of quacks

Accuses Government, Private Hospitals Of Employing Uncertified Practitioners
In a bid to curb the menace of quacks, the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has called on the Nigeria Police to begin the aggressive application of appropriate legislations against quackery and ensure the prosecution of offenders. President of the Association, Abdulrafiu Adeniji made the call yesterday in Abuja when he led other executives of the group on a courtesy visit to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris.

He said the activities of these quacks have continued to hinder effective health care delivery as well as standing in the way of qualified practitioners and persons seeking medical attention.


Adeniji said the dangerous impact of these quacks on the health of Nigerians is sad, especially to the nursing profession. 
He stated that unemployment amongst other factors combine to lure unverified people into such unwholesome practices, but as professionals “it is our duty to protect members of the public that have become vulnerable to the services of these charlatans.”
The IGP represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Medical Kaumi Ahmadu assured that the Police would do the needful in enhancing the application of law as provided to arrest and prosecute offenders as appropriate.
