NUJ gets palliative from Kwara government

Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has received palliatives from the state government, to cushion effect of the coronavirus disease (COVID19)-induced lockdown in the state.

Items donated to the union include semolina, noodles, sugar, vegetable oil and tomato puree. Government had earlier provided journalists in the state, as frontline workers, with hand sanitisers to keep them safe while on duty.

The Kwara State Task Force on COVID-19 NUJ had also trained journalists covering the pandemic in the state on the role of media in checking the spread of coronavirus.

Receiving the items, the NUJ chairman, Umar Abdulwahab, thanked Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the show of love to journalists in the state and reiterated members’ commitment to continue the enlightenment on the need for Kwarans to adhere strictly to safety measures put in place by the government against the spread of COVID- 19.

While commending the task force for every effort towards curbing the spread of the virus, Abdulwahab appreciated the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, for being a good Ambassador of the pen profession.

He said the food items had been distributed to the 12 chapels that formed the state council.

“Journalists are also playing essential roles and are at the forefront of the COVID-19 campaign. Despite that government cannot reach out to everyone at a time, the essential workers need to be motivated and encouraged.”
