The appalling situation of women at the various Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps across the country has become a source of concern to members of the Network of Reproductive Health Journalists in Nigeria (NRHJN).

The group in a statement yesterday signed by its National Secretary, Yinka Shokunbi to commemorate the International Women Day (IWD), seeks urgent intervention of the Federal Government to scale up the welfare of women in the camps.

The Network also condemned the rising cases of sexual violence across the country, and demanded the immediate adoption and domestication of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act of 2015 by all the state governments to give redress to victims.

The statement reads: “We are tasking the Federal Government to expedite action on rehabilitation of the women in these IDP camps to their homes. We call on government at all levels to, as a matter of priority, create an enabling environment that would enable Nigerian women have the opportunity to balance their work, family and social lives and contribute optimally to the economic growth of the nation.”
