No licence has been issued for 5G deployment in Nigeria, says Pantami

Claims Not Backed By WHO Research, Says ATCON
The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Mallam Isa Ali Pantami has said no licence has been issued for the deployment of 5G in Nigeria.

Pantami said President Muhammadu Buhari places premium on the welfare, health and security of Nigerians; reason technological advancement will not be at the expense of the citizens’ health and welfare.

In a statement, yesterday, in Abuja, the minister explained that a three-month study trial commenced on the November 25, 2019 to critically review and study the health and security implications of deploying 5G in Nigeria.

Similarly, the President, Association of Telecoms Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), Olusola Teniola dismissed the possibility of 5G networks emitting coronavirus. Rather, he said 5G is definitely going to improve day-to-day living.
 
On the information on the social media, Teniola warned that misinforming people might lead to sudden panic and possible damages to telecommunication infrastructure.
 
“It has come to our attention that various videos and claims shared tried to establish a correlation between COVID-19 and 5G technology. This has no basis at all.
