The Enugu State Police Command says it has detained nine persons over alleged falsification of results in the ongoing nationwide recruitment into the force. This was contained in a statement released by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amarizu, in Enugu yesterday.

The statement said the offences involved alteration of first school leaving certificates, birth certificates and other documents. It added the nine persons had been assisting the command to apprehend other perpetrators.

In Lagos State, about 3,000 applicants for the police recruitment are undergoing screening at the Police College. According to a police source, to avert the kind of tragedy that occurred during the last immigration recruitment exercise, where many applicants died, the Police High Command has put some measures in place.

According to the source, one of the measures is that the screening would not be conducted in one day. “This week, we are interviewing cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). Next week, we will interview cadet Inspector while the third week will be for Constables. With this arrangement, about 130 persons will be screened per day. That way, we can manage the situation perfectly.”

The panel headed by a Commissioner of Police, Mr. Femi Ogunbayode, was seen screening the applicants. Lagos State Police Public Relations Office (PPRO), Dolapo Badmos, who is a member of the screening committee, said: “The process has been smooth and hitch-free. Our aim is to work with the Police Service Commission (PSC) to ensure that the screening exercise is smooth and perfect.”
