Nine persons die in Niger State boat mishap

Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Ahmed Inga, yesterday said that a pregnant woman Ramatu Mamman, her two-year-old son, Saminu and seven others have died in boat mishap in Niger State.

He gave the names of the others as John Moses, a mechanic and two of his apprentices, Khalifa Danladi, 14 and Ubale Usman, 16, Muhammad Safir, Salihu Aliyu and a 72 year-old man who was simply identified as Makadi.

The incident occurred at 10 am on Monday in Shata Sabo in Shiroro Local Council when the boat capsised midway into their journey to Shata Soho in Bosso Local Council, killing nine of the 11 passengers.

However, Inga said two of the passengers and the boat operator whose identity could not be ascertained, survived the accident but that the driver was in critical condition.
