Nigerian Legion decorates Lagos monarch

In recognition of his contributions to the security of lives and property in his community, the Nigerian Legion National Headquarters, in conjunction with Nigerian Legion Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State, officially decorated Oba Alamu Oloyede Onikosi (Kehinde Edun Arobadi 1) as assistant commander general (Brig.- Gen.) Corps of the Nigerian Commissionaires (CNC) and conferred on him the honorary membership as life patron of the Nigerian Legion, Lagos chapter.

Speaking at the event, state chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Folawe Akande, who was represented by the Secretary, Comrade Nasiru Ijaodola, commended the Oba for his efforts at ensuring peace, orderliness and security of lives and property in Ikosi-Isheri council and Lagos State in general.

Col. Akande, who noted that Onikosi is the first first-class monarch to be decorated with such rank, urged other chiefs to emulate the Ikosi-Isheri monarch. Akande thanked the Onikosi for accepting the honour and wished him a happy decoration.

Established by the Act of Parliament in 1964, amended by Decree 25 Interim Management of 1977 and later repealed by Decree 37 NO. 64 Volume 75 dated 30th September 1988, Akande said that the aim of the Nigerian Legion is to cater for the welfare of retirees comprising those of Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force and foster comradeship among them.

Also, the Asoju Oba of Ikosi, Prince Lemmy Akinsoji Onikosi, while congratulating the monarch, noted that the oba is a man who does not toy with security of lives and property, law and orderliness in Ikosi-Isheri community.

Onikosi stated that the monarch’s tireless efforts at ensuring peace in the community, made Ikosi-Isheri council the safest place to live in Lagos today.

In his speech, the monarch expressed gratitude to God Almighty and to the Nigerian Legion for the honour bestowed on him.
