Zamfara guber aspirants want Buhari to intervene in crisis

A coalition of aggrieved All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial aspirants in Zamfara State yesterday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the crisis rocking the party with a view to resolving it.

Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Aminu Sani Jaji, who spoke to newsmen in Abuja on behalf of the G8, said the call became necessary following revelations that the Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee (NWC) jettisoned the consensus arrangement earlier endorsed by the party.

He explained that he was privy to information that the party submitted a list of candidates handpicked by Governor Abdulaziz Yari on February 13, 2019 based on the disputed primaries election held in Gusau last year.

He alleged that Yari gave the Oshiomhole-led NWC $500,000 to abandon the consensus arrangement.

Jaji said the development does not speak well of the APC in view of its philosophy to depart from wrongdoings in the polity.

He restated his support for the re-election of President Buhari, insisting that members of the G8 would rally round to ensure the defeat of candidates Yari submitted to INEC.

Blaming Yari for the insecurity in Zamfara, he stated that INEC could no longer be considered a truly independent body based on its decision to discard the consensus list initially submitted by the APC.

“Only President Buhari can solve this problem. This is not the change we expected under an APC government, as there are wrongdoings in the judiciary, INEC and even the APC, which settled for consensus arrangement only to be doing something else now,” he stated.
