The Chairperson, Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ), Olubunmi Aboderin-Talabi, has called for gender equality in every sector of the economy to enable women to attain the height of their careers.

At the closing gong ceremony of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) in Lagos, Aboderin-Talabi stated that the group marked the end of trading to promote gender equality and economic empowerment for women, as well as create awareness for the WIMBIZ yearly conference holding today and tomorrow in Lagos.

“During the discussions with the Chief Executive Officer of NSE, Oscar Onyema, and his executive team, we spoke about the value of inclusiveness for both men and women. To that end, some of their male staff will be attending the #WIMBIZAnnualConference2019. We look forward to welcoming them there,” she said.

According to Aboderin-Talabi, when there is gender imbalance, women may not make a difference in their chosen fields.

Balance drives a better working society, collective action and shared responsibility for achieving a gender-balanced world, she added.

Expressing satisfaction at the giant stride the organisation was making in the socio-political landscape of the country, she called inclusiveness for both males and females in business and political spaces.

However, she urged women to remain focused, stating: “When you have a dream and a vision in your heart, just keep on going, don’t let the fact that you are a woman hold you back or the fact that the society is not supporting; you just keep on pushing.”

She said women from all walks of life were expected to attend the conference.

“The WIMBIZ annual conference has over the years been a major women stakeholders’ forum where women sit together yearly to discuss relevant issues affecting their well-being as well as to proffer solutions that will help in improving their business.

She said there is need to empower women to enable them stand their ground in a country like Nigeria that is a gender-sensitive.”
