SERAP charges citizens to hold public officers accountable

EXECUTIVE Director, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), Adetokunbo Mumuni, has charged citizens to demand accountability and transparency from elected leaders.

Speaking at a public hearing on building the capacity of citizens on the use of the ‘Freedom of Information Act as a Tool for Promoting Transparency and Accountability in the Education Sector in Nigeria’ in Lagos yesterday, he noted that laws would not enforce themselves.

“It is the citizens that will make the law work. The citizens should start pressurizing those that have been given the power to make the law work. They must continue to ask for genuine accountability, transparency in matters of public governance,” he said.
