Women leader lauds Jigawa Govt. over distribution of goats
Hajia Kellu Daudu, women leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Hadejia, Jigawa, has commended the state government over distribution of goats to women in the state.
Daudu made the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Hadejia on Thursday.
Daudu said the state government had so far distributed 660 goats to 220 women in Hadejia town to enable them engage in animal rearing.
She said that each beneficiary received three goats under the government’s soft loan revolving scheme.
Daudu noted that the gesture would empower the women to enable them make some money to take care of their families.
“It is a step toward improving the social and economic well being of the women, “ she said.
Daudu urged the beneficiaries to take good care of the animals to enable them engage in profit-making activities.
NAN recalls that the Jigawa Government had initiated a Goat Breeding and Rearing Micro Credit Scheme for women in the state.
Under the programme, each beneficiary received three goats and was expected to return the same number of animals, as a means of repaying the loan within 18 months.
