Why Ogun should reject Amosun, vote for SDP, by Osoba

AHEAD of the general elections next month, the national leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Segun Osoba Wednesday said that his party remained the only genuine progressive body in the country, hence the electorate should vote massively for its candidates.

  Osoba who spoke at a meeting he held with traditional rulers, political leaders and other stakeholders at Ago-Iwoye in Ijebu North Council of the state, stated that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state had failed in terms of provision of “Democracy dividends” to the people, hence they should vote for the SDP, which according to him, would meet their expectations in terms of good governance.

  The former governor stated that Governor Ibikunle Amosun-led administration in the state had concentrated development in one section of the state to the detriment of other sections and, therefore, described him as a “sectional governor”.

  He also described Amosun as a “stooge” of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, saying most of Amosun’s supporters are the ex-president’s loyalists.

  He flayed the state government’s claim that no fewer than 50,000 youths had been employed in the last three and half years.

  Osoba also accused Amosun of abandoning the Ago-Iwoye bridge, which was initiated by his (Osoba) administration, “only to be building bridges at Sapon, Itoku and Iyana mortuary in Abeokuta”.

  The former governor decried the injustice allegedly meted out to the deputy governor of the state, Segun Adesegun, by the governor.

  He said that the shabby treatment of the deputy governor was a slap to the people of Ijebuland, which Adesegun represented.

  Osoba said: “We gave Adesegun as Amosun’s deputy because of his experience as commissioner for works. We had expected that the governor would tap from

Adesegun’s wealth of experience in governance, but the governor chose otherwise and started constructing bridges where there is no water.

  “Amosun really dealt with Adesegun; he maltreated him. Ijebu people should not see the insult meted out to Adesegun as that of Adesegun alone. They should see it as a collective insult. Therefore, it is time for Ijebu people to fight back with their votes. I’m begging you to stop the maltreatment of the Ijebu with your votes.

  “It is time to defend yourselves. This is not 1999 election when you voted for your kinsman, (Jubril) Martins-Kuye, against me.

You must show Amosun with your votes come February 28, 2015, all of you must come out en masse and pay Amosun back.”

  Osoba spoke shortly after the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Gbenga Kaka had inaugurated some projects he financed in the area.

  Kaka who appealed to the people to vote for the SDP, named one of the projects after Osoba for the ex-governor’s “immense contributions toward the development of the state”.

  The Senator appealed to the people to vote for SDP in the February polls, agreeing with Osoba that the SDP remained the only genuine progressive party in the country.
