THE President Goodluck Jonathan’s Campaign Organisation, yesterday, flayed the All Progressives Alliance (APC) over allegations that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was behind agitations for the shift of election dates.

Speaking at the public presentation of 2015-2019 Manifesto and Policy Thrust of the PDP to civil society groups, Deputy Director General, Presidential Campaign Organisation, Prof. Tunde Adeniran, stated that PDP had no reason to be jittery over the original dates of the election, stressing that PDP had worked very hard for victory.

Adeniran, therefore, emphasised that PDP was ready to meet the APC at the polls any time, any day.

According to him, the concern of PDP was about over 30 per cent of Nigerian registered voters whose Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) were yet to be collected.

He sad: “PDP has no reason to be jittery at all. PDP is a very solid party. We are not a desperate party; we stand for the people; we work for the people and we want the people of Nigeria to be properly served.

“Secondly, democracy means far more than some people think of it. It goes beyond elections. We have been trying our best to broaden the base of participation among Nigerians and when you have a situation in which more than 30 per cent of Nigerians are being disenfranchised, we do not feel that it is right.

“The final authority is INEC. If INEC is conscientious, they will be frank and honest to tell Nigerians that they are not ready.”

Adeniran added: “Nigerians are telling them all over that they are looking for their voters’ cards and there are so many logistics here and there that they need to get right. But if they say they are ready tomorrow, we are ready for them. If they say next week or next month, we are ready for them.

“Any time they do it, we are winning because we are working all over the place. So, the position of the PDP is very clear — that we are ready to go to the polls at any time but we want those in charge to do things properly. We want people to exercise their civic right. It is not a privilege, it is their rights for them to choose the people that they would want to govern them and we should not stampede anybody.”
