Ugwuanyi pledges to consolidate on Chime’s achievements
• SDP urges electorate to vote out ruling party
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the February election in Enugu State, Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has pledged to continue and complete ongoing projects of the Sullivan Chime administration as well as initiate new ones that could transform the state.
He further assured that he would strengthen the security of lives and property already entrenched by the incumbent administration and urged the people to continue to support the PDP led government in the state.
The assurance came as the Social Democratic Party (SDP) urged Enugu electorate to vote out the PDP’s governorship candidate during the election, insisting that he lacked the programmes that could earn him the votes of the people.
In a statement by the party’s chairman in Enugu, John Nwobodo, a lawyer, described as “clueless”, Ugwuanyi’s speech that he would adopt “continuity and consolidation as his agenda” if elected.
Nwobodo said: “What is he really continuing with? We are afraid, it is a continuation of a PDP government that for the past eight years deprived people of their legitimate means of livelihood by banning Okada riders without providing them with alternative; demolished people’s shops also without alternative. It is now clear that voting the PDP candidate is to once again have in place a government that will embark on demolishing monuments and spending whopping N13.6 billion on a secretariat that have no direct impact on the economy and well being of Enugu people. A vote for PDP is a continuation of car merchandise in the name of taxi scheme where operators instead of empowerment buy enslavement for themselves”.
Addressing the mammoth crowd at the headquarters of Enugu East Local Government in continuation of his election campaigns, Ugwuanyi promised to create 10,000 jobs in the first six months if voted in.
He said: “We thank God for the gist of Sullivan. We have decided to continue and consolidate on his legacies. It is going to be a case of seamless continuity.”
He urged Enugu residents to vote massively for President Goodluck Jonathan and other candidates of the party in the state assuring them that they will continue to provide quality leadership.
Meanwhile the SDP said it would provide better alternative, as it will put the people’s welfare an uppermost priority providing decent employment and housing as well as remove exorbitant taxes being charged by government.
