S’East APC faults Ekweremadu’s marginalisation claims
THE South East Zone of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday disagreed with the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu for accusing the Muhammadu Buhari led administration of marginalising the South East geo-political zone.
Spokesperson for the party in the South East, Mr Osita Okechukwu, in a statement expressed outrage over Ekweremadu’s claim against the APC led administration to justify his decision to re-contest for his position.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Senate President, said at the weekend that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was prepared to help President Mohammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) provided good governance for the benefit of Nigerians.
He also declared that the PDP would return to power in 2019 to continue with the transformation agenda which former President
Goodluck Jonathan started
According to Okechukwu, the APC in the zone is at a loss as to why the “Distinguished Senator should choose this inauspicious moment to play spoiler game, by wittingly or unwittingly throwing spanner into the works and our effort to clinch the coveted office of Secretary to Government of the Federation.
“For the avoidance of doubt, as of Saturday 13th June, 2015 and to date, when this unimaginative propaganda was riled out to hapless and anxious crowd by Senator Ekweremadu, President Muhammadu Buhari has not named the Secretary to Government of the Federation, ministers, advisers, ambassadors, boards and so on .
So on which plank was this propaganda predicated?
“Accordingly, for the records we appeal that the South East and South South, especially we of the APC stock should not be denied any position due to us because of our brother’s unintended headline that we have been settled.”
Speaking during a reception in his honour by the people of Aninri Awgu Local Council, in Enugu, he noted that the PDP was interested in the promotion of a peaceful Nigeria, adding however that it would not be party to any arrangement that could undermine the corporate existence of the country.
He said: “We are prepared to work with APC and President Buhari if they are ready to rule. If they are genuinely minded to rule this country and provide to the poor to ensure that our country stands out as a big nation, as the largest black nation in the world, that Nigeria becomes a place of peace where there will be development and equitable distribution of everything, we will be prepared to help them.
We will help ensure that corruption is reduced to the barest minimum and security is addressed. We will help them to ensure that our economy rebounds, that there is employment for everybody.
“In PDP we have started counting, we have four years between 2015 and 2019 and we will come back to power.”
He assured that the leadership of the Senate under the newly elected Senate President, Olusola Saraki was interested in the development of the country as well as the empowerment of her people, stressing that Saraki believes so much in the unity of the country.
“Let it be noted that Nigeria is in safe hands under him. He is a fine gentleman. I will like to assure our people that I will remain focused and for those of you I represent, who are wondering about what will happen to our projects, be assured that those projects will be completed. “
Speaking at the event, the Senator representing Ebonyi Central, Obinna Ogba described the re-election of Senator Ekweremadu as Deputy President of the Senate as a major victory for the South East in the present dispensation.
He stated that South East could be counted once again in the running of affairs of the country, adding that the senators from the zone were ready to work together.
