Police, Defence Corps to deploy 360,000 officers for February polls
THE Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has warned politicians against thuggery and use of weapons at next month’s general elections, just as he said 300,000 officers and 2,000 vehicles would be mobilised nationwide for the polls.
Also, the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ade Abolurin, has said his organisation will deploy 60,000 men for the exercise.
They both made the disclosures at separate interviews in Abuja at the close of a workshop on the general elections at the weekend.
Abba, who spoke at the event, organised by the Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development (SCDDD), pledged the Force’s readiness for the elections
Abolurin, who also spoke at the programme, tagged 2015 Elections and Beyond: Stakeholders Conference on the Role of State and Non State Actors in Mitigating Violence in Elections”, said the corps was importing 25 sniffer dogs from the United States to detect likely explosives during the elections.
