Parties in Kano State pledge peaceful polls

Police urge politicians to shun violence

MEMBERS of major political parties in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states have resolved in Kano to control their supporters to embark on political campaigns and rally devoid of rancour during and after the general election.

 Drawn from All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Labour Party (LP) in the states equally pledged to abide by the rules and regulations guiding the electoral process. 

 Besides, the Assistant Inspector of Police in-charge of Zone 1, Alhaji Tambari Yabo Muhammed counselled political actors in the zone to play by the rules and avoid acts capable of leading to violence.

 The AIG in charge of Kano, Katsina and Jigawa spoke while addressing members of the political parties in Kano on peaceful conduct of parties’ activity during and after the poll, said, “we don’t want the ugly experience of 2011; that is the reason why we have called you all to admonish you and for you to prevail on your supporters to play by the rules of the game. We know you are all leaders of your parties in Jigawa, Kano and Katsina and God will definitely ask you about those supporters and you have directed them.”

 Tambari insisted that Police will not tolerate unguarded utterances by politicians through the media and during campaign rallies, positing that security agencies are well positioned to instill stiffer penalties on anybody found violating the rules.

 “Let me inform this gathering that the full weight of the law would be taken against any attempted plan to cause violence during the election in three states. We are prepared for a violence-free election and we want the parties to support us in this efforts and you can do that by abiding by the electoral law,” Tambari emphasized.

 Muhammed Nasiru Kiri APC Jigawa pledged the party’s loyalty to peacefully co-exist with other parties but demanded a level playing ground for all the parties.
