Osinbajo to push for justice sector reforms

VICE President Yemi Osinbajo has pledged to assist in the push for reforms in the Nigerian justice system, saying that it has now become imperative for him as the No.2 man in the country.

Osinbajo, who spoke at the opening dinner of the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL) conference in Lagos on Sunday, used the opportunity to thank his colleagues in the legal profession and other Nigerians who backed President Muhammadu Buhari and he with their votes.

According to him, it is high time the ease of doing business in Nigeria became seamless and smooth so that investors would continue to tap into the nation’s potentials. More so, “it will be in the interest of the country if the ease of doing business in Nigeria is improved”, he declared.

According to the Chairman of SBL council, Asue Ighodalo, “Nigeria is ranked 170th on the World Bank ease of doing business index. While this index and its underlying facts are not necessarily a holistic view of the ease of doing business in Nigeria, they are symptomatic.

“This stimulates a conversation with potential investors and business start-ups – about improving Nigeria’s ease of doing business.”

The conference has nine sessions touching on various topical issues, to be anchored by outstanding local and international speakers.

Chairman of the planning committee, Ayuli Jemide, disclosed that over 300 people had registered online for the event. Meanwhile, the vice president assisted in randomly picking three winners of the iphone 6 prize.

Jemide said the action was aimed at motivating more people to do online registration instead of crowding the registration desk at the venue of the conference as was the case in the past.
