THE Social Democratic Party (SDP), Ogun State Chapter inaugurated its campaign Wednesday with the party’s leader, Chief Segun Osoba pledging better governance under the party.

Osoba who was convinced of the party’s victory in the forthcoming elections disclosed that the party was targeting not less than 500,000 votes, stressing that judging by the way the party had been received by the masses, the target would be met, if not surpassed.

The former governor told the crowd at the rally, held at the Ake Palace ground that, “SDP is the first born of Chief Obafemi Awolowo and SDP government is not going to be a party of friends and family members.”

Osoba presented the party’s symbolic governorship flag to Senator Kamar Babalola Odunsi, describing the governorship candidate as a mature, experienced, level headed and genuine democrat who would not disappoint the people.

Odunsi told his party faithful, “Our party is a platform of action, a framework for building coalitions and conscience across diverse social-political groups which would go beyond the precincts of age or circumstances of birth.”

Among the dignitaries at the ceremony were Afenifere chieftains, Chiefs Ayo Adebanjo and Olanihu Ajayi.

Adebayo said SDP was ready to offer selfless service and urged the electorate to vote for the party massively.

Meanwhile, the party’s governorship candidate in Oyo State, Seyi Makinde yesterday clarified that he is in the contest to win and not to test the waters.

Makinde, who spoke against the backdrop of claims by some people that he is in the race to prepare himself for 2019 said the suffering and increased poverty in the land made it compelling your him to contest.

The SDP candidate who dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the wake of the party’s state congress to elect its gubernatorial candidate spoke at the inauguration of his campaign organisation headed by the former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Kehinde Ayoola.

He enjoined members of the campaign organization to work assiduously to actualize his ambition so as to bring into fruition his plan to liberate the suffering masses of the state which he said could not be delayed for another four years.
