In an effort to help the government plan for better health indices for the country, the National Population Commission has launched the sixth Demographic Health Survey (DHS). The DHS is a comprehensive health survey report that provides up to date estimates on basic demographic and health indicators in the entire country.

During the official launch of the 2018 Nigeria Demographic and Health survey report, the Ag. Chairman National Population Commission, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin said the success of the survey report was achieved with collaboration with the national Elimination Programme (NMEP) under the Federal Ministry of Health across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

She noted that new innovative approaches were used in the conduct of the 2018 NDHS as well as the inclusion of the DHS program’s disability module in the 2018 NDHS, which allowed the commission to collect information on disability status of Nigerians for the first time.

She commended President Buhari for granting them the opportunity to contribute to national development through the generation and dissemination of credible data for national planning. She urged policy makers, relevant government ministries, departments and agencies, organized private sector and other data end users to take the report as a call to action to identify priority action areas.
