NEMA appoints desk officers in Taraba, Gombe, Bauchi

THE Gombe Operations Office, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has appointed Desk Offices in Taraba, Gombe and Bauchi States to coordinate its activities.

Alhaji Saidu Minin, Head of Gombe Operations, made this known on Friday in Bauchi during an interactive session with stakeholders.

Minin explained that the desk officers were appointed for the state offices and also for Sectoral Responses under the each of the three states.

He said the responsibilities of the sectoral officers include camp management, basic education, food and nutrition, logistic and telecommunication, security, protection, water, sanitation and hygiene, health, emergency shelter and non-food items.

The head of operations said that a chairman would be appointed among stakeholders, while NEMA official would serve as secretary of the sectoral responses.

According to him, each sector will be holding and coordinating their meetings prior to emergency and disasters situations.

He commended stakeholders in Bauchi State for their supports and cooperation, which NEMA had enjoyed during previous years.

Minin urged them to maintain the existing relationship and collaborative efforts with the agency in 2015.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Civil Liberty Organisations (CLOs), and other stakeholders at the meeting commended NEMA for its prompt and proactive measures during previous disasters in the state. (NAN)
