ANGERED by the recent suspected killing of a female corps member serving in the state, the Kwara State Government has requested the Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Garba Salihu to intensify efforts on investigation, arrest and prosecution of perpetrators of the heinous act.

Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Sola Gold, who conveyed the directive in a letter, signed on his behalf by the Permanent Secretary (General Services), Alhaji M. A Shehu, said the government is disturbed by the sad news of the death of the Corp member, Ms. Yetunde Idowu, whose body was discovered on a street in GRA, Ilorin.

Alhaji Gold said that while every life requires protection from the security agencies, corps members on national duty in Kwara State deserve special care and attention because they are serving their fatherland away from their families.

The State Government therefore call on the Commissioner of Police to accelerate the investigations to unravel the circumstances leading to the corps member’s death and bring to book any culprit or collaborators that may have been involved in the unfortunate incident.

Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal holding in Ilorin yesterday upheld the high court judgement, which ordered the reinstatement of the suspended Kwara state lawmaker Iliasu Ibrahim.

The court ordered the immediate reinstatement of the lawmaker representing Ipaye/Malete/Oloru constituency.

Citing alleged misconduct, the House on two consecutive occasions had in the years 2012 and 2013 ordered the suspension of Ibrahim.

It would be recalled that the State High Court in a judgment delivered on June 16, 2014 lifted his suspension.
The lawmaker, who attempted to resume at the House, was allegedly prevented from entering by security agents attached to the house.

But, the Court of Appeal in a unanimous judgment upheld the earlier verdict of the High Court, describing the suspension of the lawmaker, as “illegal, null and void.”

The appeal CA/IL/155/2014 was filed by the Speaker of the House, Razaq Atunwa and Hon. Yusuf Tanke against Iliasu Ibrahim.

The appellate court in the lead judgment delivered by Justice Uchechukwu Onyemenam dismissed the appeal and ordered the payment of all entitlements of the suspended lawmaker.

The court also awarded N100, 000 cost against the appellants.
