‘Killing of officers won’t affect synergies among security agencies’

The recent killing of some of the men and officers of the Nigerian Police Force by suspected soldiers in Adamawa State will not deter the Police from sustaining the existing synergies between the para military body and other security agencies in the country, according to Deputy Inspector General of Police,  Abdulmajeed Alli.

Alli, during a brief visit to the men and officers of the Kwara State command of the Nigeria Police yesterday in Ilorin, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for ordering a panel of enquiries to unravel the reasons for the brutal killing of the policemen said to had been on an official duty in the state.

The top police officer, while urging the policemen in Nigeria not to allow “the unfortunate incident” to affect their morale combating crimes in the country believed that the result of the investigation would be made public at the appropriate time.

According to him, “the incident that led to the death of the police officers was unfortunate. The President and the Commander-in-Chief of the nation’s Armed Forces (President Buhari) had ordered a high powered investigations into the matter through a committee that is ongoing. This will definitely not be swept under the carpet.

“I am bold to add that this will not affect the existing synergies between us and other security forces in the country. Besides, it will not affect our morale fighting crimes within our nation.”

Alli,  who is also the DIG in charge of Operations, disclosed that some men and officers of the Police currently undergoing special training would soonest round off their endeavours and would in turn become “the special operational armed squad of the Police.”

He urged the state’s command to embrace more of community policing noting that the modern day crime fighting mechanism could not be realistic without the involvement of the  members of the communities.

Already, Alli said, the Community Policing System created by the brass of the police command would soon take off from ward level to that of the state.

The Police boss while disclosing his recent missions to South West geo political zone of Nigeria as ordered by the Inspector General, said the visit among others was aimed at addressing recent upsurge in the cases of kidnapping in the area.

He thanked the political and traditional leaders in the zone for giving the police all the necessary assistance combating the vice.

Besides,  he said the issues of weapons and manpower gap in the Police had received maximum attention from the current leadership of the nation’s Inspector General of Police.

The Commissioner of Police in Kwara, Kayode Egbetokun disclosed the existence of the Community and Police relationship in the state, long before the recent order by the top echelons of the force to introduce it across the country.
