WIFE of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo state, Mrs Angela Folarin has assured women in the state of special support and intervention programmes should her husband be given the mandate as the next governor of the state.

Angela also told the women and youths who constitute over 60per cent of the voting population in the state to cast their votes for Senator Folarin with a pledge to ensure that women are allotted more than 35per cent representation in the incoming government while youths would also be given opportunities to partake and contribute to the development of the state.

Angela, a lawyer spoke in Ibadan at the maiden edition of Oyo state chapter of the Kiitan Adeagbo-led Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) platform for women in politics.

She said, “I have an unshaken belief in making everybody happy just like my husband and that informed why we are in politics to shape peoples’ lives and affect larger percentage of the people positively in a way that the society would be a better place for all to live in.

“My experience while working with the first lady of Nigeria, Mrs. Dame Patience Jonathan as a wife of the former Senate Leader, ‎made me to have a full understanding of what our women are passing through not only in this state but across the 36 states of the federation because we toured the country and saw what our women are experiencing on regular basis due to the excruciating economic down turn and avoidable poverty level.

“‎Mrs. Jonathan advocated for more women participation in the PDP-led Federal Government and she successfully got 35per cent for women participation in Jonathan’s government.‎ I, as a person encouraged more women participation in the current electioneering campaign in the state PDP and that informed why the likes of Mrs. Adedeji Otiti, Folake Olunloyo-Osinowo and Funke Adesiyan among others got the ticket to be our party’s candidates at Senatorial, House of Representatives and state assembly.”

To this end, Angela advocated for a new law from the National Assembly to protect children and women’s welfare and rights, just as she ‎stressed that the plight of widows; curtailing further spread of HIV/AIDS; empowerment tools and financial support for women; care for the widows and single mothers; care for the aged and children among others would form part of her pet project if the people of the state grant them the opportunity to steer the ship of Pace Setters state from May 29.
