Says 200 Criminal Suspects Arrested During Yuletide  

ABIA  State Police Commissioner Mr. Adamu Ibrahim has informed that, following the measures and strategies put in place in the state by his command, over 200 suspects were arrested for various offenses before, during and after the Yuletide, with a reasonable number of them already facing prosecution.

    Addressing a press conference in Umuahia Saturday, Ibrahim listed some of the crimes for which the arrested persons allegedly committed and the highlights of the Command’s achievements within the period which he tagged Sanitizing Abia State of Crime and Criminality.

   Those arrested were Mr Chinza Ofoegbu aged 20 years for alleged kidnapping, Mr Chibueze Onuegbu for stolen vehicles, Mr Kalu Arua for defiling one Miss Uju Egojiolu aged 12 years in a bush at Ohafia, after he picked her in Lagos with the intention of reuniting her with her Lagos guardians Mr. and Mrs. Okey Nwosu from whom she allegedly absconded.

  They also include Mr Chimere Eze alias Nwa-Barrister said to be a notorious robber and arrest-evader, Mr Onyekachi Uchendu and Uchenna Ibeabuchi arrested at Aba for suspected robbery and stealing respectively among other arrests connected with vehicle snatching, Child trafficking.

   The state Police boss, who renewed his Command’s determination to fight and curb crime and make the state safe and peaceful, informed that the Command was holding meetings and seminars to strategise on how to ensure free and peaceful election conduct in the state.

   On the Police assessment of the ongoing electioneering campaigns in the state, he expressed commendation for the political parties and their candidates to some extent and recalled the meeting the Command held with the Political Parties on peaceful electioneering campaigns. He however said that there were complaints and reports of destruction of posters and billboards saying that some suspects were already facing prosecution.

   Asked to state the result of Police investigation of the alleged explosion that reportedly occurred recently at the state Head Office of the Progressive People’s Alliance (PPA) in Umuahia, CP Ibrahim said that the investigation showed that the explosion occurred at the ground floor of the three-storey building while the PPA occupies the last floor. He added that there was neither human nor material casualty resulting from the explosion.
