• Voters Protest Non-issuance Of PVcs In Owerri North Council

WIFE of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Presidential candidate, Maj-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, Hajia Aisha Buhari, has urged women in the South-East geo-political zone of Nigeria, comprising Imo, Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi and Enugu States, to vote massively for her husband and other APC candidates in the forthcoming polls.

Also, scores of protesters from Owerri North Local Council of Imo State stormed Owerri, the state capital on Friday to register their grievances on the alleged non-issuance of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) by the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

At the massive campaign/rally held at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, for southeast women campaign held at the weekend, Buhari’s wife, who was accompanied by the wife of Buhari’s running mate, Mrs. Yemi Osinbajo, wife of the Imo State governor, Mrs. Nkechi Okorocha, among others, Buhari’s wife said votes for the APC presidential candidate would herald the end to insurgency, corruption, unemployment for the teeming population and other basic necessities of life, urging all to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

In his address, the Imo State governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, refuted rumours that if Buhari is elected, he would Islamise the entire nation, stressing that it was tissue of lies used against the APC’s presidential candidate by the opponent to score political point.

Okorocha’s wife, Nkechi, said the women should be wiser and cast their votes for Buhari, her husband and all the APC candidates for good governance.

Meanwhile, the protesters who were led by a former member of the State House of Assembly, Nze Ray Emeana, also took their complaints to the commission’s Secretariat at Port Harcourt Road, Owerri, regretting that few days to the deadline, no registered voter in the council had received the PVC.

They warned against disenfranchising numerous persons from the area, urging that INEC officials should not single out the council in distributing the PVCs.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), in the state, Dr. George Ada, who had assured that the cards were going to be issued in the area from January 24, 2015, urged the public to be patient as the logistic problems were been handled.
