GOVERNOR Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State on Sunday promised to ensure that the people of the state voted for President Goodluck Jonathan in the forthcoming election.

Making the pledge when he received some political associations in Bauchi, The Bauchi G-20 and Bauchi Grassroots Development Initiative (BGDI), the governor said he would canvass for 100 per cent of votes for President Jonathan.

He explained that Bauchi state had been a PDP state since the return of democracy in the country in 1999, adding that he would maintain the status-quo by ensuring a clear victory for PDP at all levels.

He expressed regret over the outcome of the 2011 presidential election in which President Jonathan scored the least votes in the 36 states of the federation.

“During the 2011 presidential election, Jonathan failed in three states and Bauchi state was at the bottom of the failed list. This made me very ashamed whenever I am with the president.

“I do not want a repeat of that in next month’s election.

“I want to make it very clear that I am behind President Goodluck Jonathan in next month’s election and I am ready to work for him to ensure that he gets 100 per cent votes in Bauchi state, “Yuguda emphasized.

He advised the electorate not to be deceived by those preaching politics of religion, pointing out that Jonathan-Namadi of the PDP and Buhari-Osibanjo of APC, are all combinations Muslim and Christian tickets.

“Let no one deceive you as a Muslim, that you should not vote for Jonathan because he is a Christian. Is his running mate, Namadi Sambo, not a Muslim?

“And better still, is Buhari’s running mate, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo, not a Christian? So who are we deceiving? “he asked.

He blamed politicians, who in their quest for cheap votes, used religion as a tool to divide the people.

The Governor equally cautioned PDP supporters against election violence, stressing that PDP preached zero tolerance to election violence.

Earlier in her remarks, Hajiya Bahijja Mahmoud, the President of Bauchi G-20, explained that their visit was to pledge their support for Yuguda’s ambition to represent the people of Bauchi South Senatorial Zone in the Senate.

Mahmoud said the group would help in canvassing for votes for the Governor and other PDP flag- bearers in next month’s election.

“We are behind you and any candidate you support 100 per cent. Our support would be for PDP all the way, from top to bottom, “she said.

The leader of BGDI, Malam Bashir Hassan, also promised to support PDP in next month’s elections. (NAN)
