APC guber candidate promises all-inclusive welfare package for Akwa Ibom people
THE All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Akwa Ibom State, Obong Umana Okon Umana, has said that, if voted to power his administration will focus aggressively on agriculture, power, education, industrialisation and wealth creation.
He made this claim during the kicking-off of his campaign in Abak Local Council of the state where the party candidates for state and national assembly from the area were also given their flags.
Umana, who had served as secretary to the state government for about six years noted that, through a well-planned agricultural programme, the problem of unemployment would be tackled in the state.
An APC government in the state he stressed would create wealth through micro loans to people at the grass root with business ideas, adding that, petty traders and those venturing into business for the first time would use such scheme to develop their entrepreneurial skills.
On power, the gubernatorial candidate, who has served the state in different capacities promised that, with APC government, the problem of power would be solved as all council areas would be linked to the national grid, thereby discouraging rural-urban shift.
He assured students from the state of increment in their bursary awards from N5,000 to a minimum of N50, 000 if voted into power, adding that, his administration would create standards in the education sector so as to achieve a better results.
“Merit and quality will be restored students from the state that will do well in school will be looked for and trained in the best schools in the world so as to position them to compete globally. This is the kind of change we are talking about,” he said.
On the dwindling economic fortune of the country, he said that, if given the mandate to be governor, his administration would look inward to enhance internally generated revenue.
“The state airport will be completed by building cargo terminal, completing the MRO facility so that the airport will then generate revenue for the state and of course, other sources would be exploited,” he added.
According to him, his administration will operate an open door government where others views, suggestions and ideas would be accommodated, thereby, calling on the people to embrace the wind of change that is blowing across the country.
“I have nobody as god-father, only God is my god-father, so because of that, I will be accountable to all of you since you are the people that will vote me into office.”
He charged AkwaIbom people not to be afraid, but to see the coming change as a challenge, noting that, since Goliath did not defeat little David when Israel faced similar challenge, God will bring about the needed change in the state and indeed the country.
