A 56-year-old man, Ismail Akande, on Thursday approached a Grade A Customary Court in Iseyin, Oyo State, to dissolve his marriage to Mutiat, alleging infidelity against her.

Akande told the court that Mutiat was living a wayward life, saying that her misbehaviour started after he lost his job.
He said that the attitude of his wife, with whom he had three children in their 18-year-old marriage, had made him a ‘’laughing stock’’ in their neighbourhood.

According to him, my wife’s attitude changed when I could no longer provide for the family due to loss of job.

“She resorted to living a wayward life because I could no longer fend for the family; I became her subject of ridicule at all times and a laughing stock in my area because of her attitude.

“As a result, our children are also feeling the heat of her misdemeanour among their friends, “ Akande told the court.

In her response, Mutiat described the allegations as “unfounded” and said that Ismail had been an irresponsible husband.

She urged the court to dissolve the marriage, saying that she was also tired of it.

In his ruling, President of the court, Chief Raimi Oyegbenle, made passionate appeal to families of the estranged couple to find solution to the lingering crisis before the next adjourned date.

He adjourned the matter to Aug. 27, 2015, for report of settlement.
