Nigeria sure to crush Boko Haram, Lebanon recalls experience
THE Federal Government has re-assured the international community of its commitment to crushing the Boko Haram insurgency, and returning the country to the peace and tranquility it enjoyed since independence.
The re-assurance was given in Abuja on Wednesday by a principal officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Clement Onoja, on behalf of the Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, at the 72nd independence anniversary of Lebanon.
In his remarks at the event, Onoja stated that though the Federal Government faced an imminent challenge of terrorism, it has the capability to crush the menace.
“The Nigerian government is on top of the matter. Your lives, property are safe as long as you live in Nigeria because the Federal Government has not relented in its effort to crush the insurgency that is destabilising the nation. It is just a matter of time for this country to be restored to the peace and tranquility it has enjoyed since it got independence”, he said while also calling on the friends of the country to join hands with it to overcome the challenge.
“We stand strongly with the government and people of Lebanon at all times and we call on all our friends to stand with the Federal Government to bring peace and tranquility to this nation,” he added.
Addressing the audience, Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Lebanon, Mr. Wassim Ibrahim stated that terrorism is a global problem at the moment, which Lebanon has also been faced with in more than 10 years.
“We have a stance against terrorism. We have an experience. Lebanon has been suffering from terrorism for over a decade because of aggression and it has taken a long time to liberate all territory. Almost everyday we have airspace violation and now a lot of spies everywhere around Lebanon.’’
