Nigeria needs to improve its justice system, says UNHCR

To address the social menace and other crimes going on in Nigeria, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) has said that the Federal government must strengthen its justice system to make it more efficient and productive.

While speaking at a two-day seminar in Yola, the country representative of the commission, Brigitte Mukanga Eno, said improving Nigeria justice system will inspire the confidence of Nigerians and the international community.

While declaring the seminar open, the minister of justice and attorney general of the Federation, Alhaji Abubakar Malami, SAN said that the seminar would consider the laws on gender based violence and also fashion out modalities to tackle the increasing cases of violence against women and children in Nigeria.

On the massive deployment of military to Abia state, the minister told journalists that the federal government would not compromise its constitutional responsibility of maintaining peace and the unity of the country. He said that the present administration will not tolerate any act that contravenes the provisions of the constitution and that the unity of the country and protection of lives and property is the cardinal point of any government.
