Nigeria moves to become Africa’s digital economy capital by 2023

The Federal Government is working towards making Nigeria the digital economy capital of Africa by 2023.

Meanwhile, the cost of cybercrime globally by 2021 would be more than $6 trillion.

Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Pantami, who disclosed this at the 2020 International Legislative-Stakeholders Conference on Digital Technology and Cybersecurity yesterday in Abuja, said the recent presidential directive relocating the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to the ministry was part of efforts at accelerating the achievement of the Nigeria Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS 2020-2030).

He admitted that the commission had played a vital role in the promotion of the current draft data protection bill.

Pantami said government was finalising the Nigeria Digital Asset Management Policy, while the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) had been directed to come up with the Nigeria Innovation and Entrepreneurship Policy.
