Malaria treatment

About N132 billion is lost every year to malaria in Nigeria.

In 2017, 19 percent of the global death from malaria occurred in Nigeria while Nigeria accounts for a very high level of malaria morbidity and mortality in the world.

Chairman, Planning Committee of the World Malaria Day, Dr. Uzodinma Adirieje, who disclosed this in Abuja, noted that Nigeria is sitting on the top of high burden countries for malaria, adding that out of every four people that suffer from malaria globally, one is in Nigeria.

He observed that even though the budgetary allocation to the fight against malaria is low, government is working to ensure that malaria is controlled and eliminated.

Adirieje insisted that Nigeria must do things differently to get the needed results and called for sustainable citizens participation in the efforts to eliminate malaria.

He said the theme of the 2019 World Malaria Day is: “Zero Malaria starts with me – Join Me” and stressed the need for Nigerians to keep their environment clean and sleep inside the treated mosquito nets.
