Protest in Kano over non-payment of allowance

Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, has approved the upward review of allowances of corps members posted to the state from N3, 000 to N5, 000 with effect from July 2016. The governor who gave the approval yesterday during the closing ceremony of the 2016 Batch A, stream two, orientation course at the NYSC orientation camp at Paiko, said that despite the dwindling resources of the state occasioned by current economic situation in the country, the government remained committed to the welfare of corps members.

This is coming as newly posted corps members to Kano State yesterday obstructed the passing out ceremony at Kusala Dam orientation camp, Karaye about 50 kilometers from Kano, protesting non-payment of their allowance.

The angry 2016 batch A, stream two corps members were said to have threaten to leave the camp or not participate in the closing ceremony if the NYSC refused to settle their N20, 000 allowance mostly paid in camp .

Governor Bello therefore, directed all the local government councils in the state to key into the welfare programme of the corps members, warning that no ministry or parastatal should reject corps members posted to them for their primary assignment.
