Nicole needs $625,000 to battle asphyxia

Nicole Oluwasemilore Adesanya

Nicole Oluwasemilore Adesanya, aged six, was born like every other child, but suffered birth asphyxia (lack of oxygen during birth), which has left her in a severe health condition.

Nicole, whose brain was damaged at birth, cannot sit, turn, talk, walk, nor show signs of development like her normal peers. She has since lived on the support of her parents and caregivers.

Though she attends a special school, Child Development Centre in Surulere, Nicole does not show any sign of improvement. Her parents have been moving from one medical facility to another in Nigeria to find treatment for her ailment, all to no avail, but eventually, they received some good news of Nicole becoming whole like her peers.

However, there is hope for Nichole, as the Seattle children hospital in the United States has assured her of a better life. “We were able to get through to Ben Carson, who later introduced us to John Hopkins Medicine International. We spoke to them and they told us they would run some surgeries on her alongside other management like physiotherapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy. But all of those things are very expensive,” Nicole’s father, Adesanya Adebiyi, said.

The estimated surgery is $625,000. Meanwhile, Miss Curvy Culture Nigeria, Shelly Ogbise, is advocating for the public to assist Nichole in getting better, living a normal life like her peers. “I want her to be independent and be able to do things by herself.”
