Newly launched The Guardian website shone brightly at the inaugural edition of the .ng Web Award, which took place at the Lagos Oriental Hotel, beating 12 other Nigerian media organisations to the coveted prize.

The .ng Media Award category, according to the Nigeria Internet Registration Agency (NiRA), organisers of the .ng Web Award, recognises excellence in journalism and other media-related activities, and was open to all media houses in Nigeria.

The Guardian’s Executive Director, Toke Alex Ibru, responded to the win, saying: “We are extremely delighted to be recognised for the award which is a demonstration of the hard work and commitment of The Guardian Digital and Ventra Media team in integrating quality products and unique content on our digital and social media platforms. The Guardian continues to focus on providing our readers with quality and trustworthy journalism online with an interactive and user-friendly experience.”

The Guardian launched a redesigned website in February. The redesigned site records an average of 2.3 million visitors, a figure that looks set to climb in the coming months as the newspaper adds new features and content categories. It features up-to-the-minute information for readers in search of the latest news in politics, business, entertainment and sports.

The Guardian, one of Nigeria’s oldest and leading media organisations, brought Ventra Media Group in as its digital partner and together they launched the revamped Guardian website.

Ventra Media is a full-service digital marketing and rights agency whose range of services includes digital strategy, growing social media audiences and planning, as well as buying digital media for brands and content owners. The outfit also specialises in website and apps development, social media management, as well as content production and marketing.

Commenting, the Chief Executive Officer of Ventra Media Group, Daryn Wober, said: “Ventra’s digital expertise is assisting The Guardian to create a new standard for digital newspaper publishing in the market. As the digital partners of The Guardian Nigeria we are very proud of the recognition that has been given to the re-launched guardian.ng site. This is an early accolade for the work that is underway to turn the title into a leading digital publisher globally.”
